FEFSI Function !
The Chennai Trade Centre was the venue of the 9th All India Film Employees Federation Conference (AIFEC) which is being held in the city after 30 years.
The inaugural function saw a huge turnout of film personalities and delegates. K Balachander, Rajesh Khanna, Kamal Hassan, Dasari Narayan Rao, Dharmesh Tiwari and others lit the inaugural lamp in the presence of Chief guest Sri Jagatharakshagan, Deputy Minister of I & B, Government of India. VC Guhanathan, FEFSI president and his team were present to welcome the guests.
KB spoke about the need to kill piracy which was the scourge of filmdom. He also made a request to the government to appoint a jury member from AIFEC in the selection committee of the National Awards.
Mahesh Bhatt gave an introduction to Rajesh Khanna who was presented with a lifetime achievement award by Kamal Hassan. Rajesh Khanna recalled his old links with the city and recited couplets in Hindi while stressing on the need to uphold the cause of technicians who he said, ‘had made him a star and later a superstar.’
Kamal in his speech said that he was a technician first and foremost. He stressed for the need to set up an industrial training centre for film technicians and said that he would contribute in whatever way he could for the cause. He also stressed that technology is always being upgraded and technicians should update themselves and make use of the new job opportunities technology presented instead of being scared by it.
Dasari Narayana Rao spoke on the importance of technicians who he said “made the stars what they are. Technicians are one of the pillars of cinema and without them no star would be as they are on screen.” Speaking on technique he said, “Good technique is not spending crores or getting the best equipment. It lies in making people forget themselves in the cinema theatre.” Minister Jagathrakshagan in his speech lauded the idea of an industrial training centre for technicians and extended his support for it.
The three day conference will also have a mega star nite and musical nite to raise funds for AIFEC employees’ welfare activities.
