November 19, 2008
The veteran villain beloved to so many generations of moviegoers, M.N. Nambiar passed away this afternoon (November 19th). He had been ailing for sometime in a hospital. What is striking about Nambiar is that he has acted with five generations of stars, from MGR to Vijay. Fierce on screen, he was pious and gentle in real life. He was born on March 7, 1919 in

Kerala. He has acted in more than 1,000 films. Among his favorite films are the ones with MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, particularly Aayirathil Oruvan and Ambikapathi respectively.
It was Bhagyaraj who had him play a character role and not a villain in Thooral Ninu Pochu. Sridhar, who passed away recently, was another favorite director of his, and he was memorable in Nenjam Marappathillai. We all know the accent with which he spoke Tamil (many have mimicked it), but that only endeared himself more to the audience. The industry, and we his fans and audience, will miss him much. Behindwoods offers its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
