CCTV captured Malaysian Indian stealing Laptop – Inspired by Tamil Movies
Three Malaysian ethnic Indian youth, involved in at least 20 cases of robbery, have said they got the idea after watching Tamil movies.
“These youths in their early 20s are school dropouts and turned to a life of crime after getting the idea from watching Tamil movies,” a police official was quoted by the local media as saying.
The police has appealed to elected representatives and NGOs to help identify school dropouts and juvenile delinquents in their area and organise activities or dialogues with them.
Ethnic Indians comprise eight percent of Malaysia’s population of 27 million people and a majority of them are Tamils. Tamil movies are very popular here and are released simultaneously when they are released in Chennai.
Many youths can be seen loitering around the suburb of Brickfields, which is the “little India” of Kuala Lumpur, with shaven heads, sporting thick gold chains and earrings and clad in black jeans and t-shirts akin to some in Tamil movies.
A few years ago there were calls to ban Tamil movies here by some who claimed that the cinema influenced youth in the wrong way.
The TV serials shown on Sun TV, a India-based Tamil channel, are also very popular among the ethnic Indians here especially the housewives.
